    Expositores / Speakers

    Carlos Sandoval Hurtado

    Veterinary doctor at Universidad Católica de Temuco, Masters in Science, specializing in Animal Health at Universidad Austral de Chile. He has over 15 years experience in the area of pathology and histopathology of fish and other species, becoming one of the most renowned histopathologists in Chile. He is currently the Director of VeHiCe (Veterinary Histopathology Center) a leading laboratory in histopathology whose clients include laboratories, universities, aquaculture industry and avian industry mainly.

    Hugh W. Ferguson

    Earned his veterinary degree from the Royal School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh, Scotland and held a Wellcome Research Fellowship at the Institute of Aquaculture, Stirling University where he obtained his PhD. He subsequently worked for 4 years as a diagnostic pathologist at the Veterinary Research Laboratories, Belfast, Northern Ireland, prior to moving to Canada. He is board-certified in the American college of veterinary pathology (ACVP) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath, London). He was Professor and Chair of Diagnostic Pathology and Microbiology at Stirling University, Scotland, and Full Professor of Pathology at Ontario Veterinary College, Canada. Most recently he was Full Professor and Chair of veterinary pathology, and Senior Research Fellow in Windward Islands Research and Education Foundation (WINDREF), St George’s University (SGU), Grenada, West Indies. He is presently Professor Emeritus at Stirling University, Scotland (Institute of Aquaculture). Hugh Ferguson teaches and consults internationally and is author and co-author of more than 220 scientific papers and books, most of which concern diseases of fish. He is also author and editor of the standard textbook “Systemic Pathology of Fish” Scotian Press, London, 2006. His main interests include basic defence mechanisms, emerging infectious diseases of farmed fish, and integration of traditional pathology with new molecular diagnostic technique.
